Ms. Akhtar focuses her practice on corporate and real estate law, acting as outside general counsel for businesses ranging from start-ups to mid-market firms. She manages various corporate matters such as asset and real estate financing, distribution, consulting, employment, and non-disclosure agreements, as well as corporate governance issues. Additionally, she assists clients with mergers and acquisitions and the formation of new business entities and joint ventures. Ms. Akhtar provides guidance to lenders and borrowers on diverse financing transactions, including construction and permanent loans, secured and unsecured credit facilities, loan purchases and sales, and the restructuring of distressed loans.
In real estate, Ms. Akhtar represents both buyers and sellers in all facets of property acquisitions and sales, covering office buildings, industrial sites, shopping centers, and residential projects. She advises landlords and tenants on lease preparation and negotiation for office, retail, and industrial properties.
A LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP BD+C) recognized by the U.S. Green Building Council, Ms. Akhtar has a strong commitment to sustainable development and energy efficiency. She also holds the Certified Information Privacy Professional/Europe (CIPP/E) designation from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), providing counsel on privacy and data-related terms in commercial contracts and negotiating data processing agreements.
