Samuel Meirowitz is a highly skilled personal injury attorney based in New York City, known for his dedication and strong advocacy for clients. He is a member of the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers” and was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Super Lawyers in 2013 and 2014, and as a Super Lawyer annually since 2016. In 2013, Mr. Meirowitz achieved a landmark multi-million dollar asbestos verdict in a New York federal court, the first of its kind in over two decades. He successfully convinced a jury to hold a boiler manufacturer responsible for 60% of the $3.8 million award, despite attempts by the defendant to shift the blame to the plaintiff’s employer and the U.S. Navy, where the plaintiff had served during the Vietnam War. This verdict was later upheld by the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
Earlier, Mr. Meirowitz secured significant settlements for nine smokers whose workplace asbestos exposure contributed to their lung cancer. He firmly believes that “cases settle when defendants realize the jury will hold them accountable.”
Outside the courtroom, Mr. Meirowitz is committed to raising awareness about workplace safety and asbestos dangers. He has organized union meetings on safety hazards and given seminars in rural Canada to educate the public about the risks of asbestos exposure. He also actively supports charitable causes, including participating in the 2012 Miles for Mesothelioma run-walk event, raising funds and awareness for victims of the disease.
Before co-founding Meirowitz & Wasserberg, Mr. Meirowitz was a senior trial lawyer at a prominent national plaintiff’s firm. He also served as a prosecutor in the Bronx District Attorney’s Office for four years, handling thousands of cases and achieving a strong record of success in trials. During that time, he taught law as an adjunct professor at City University of New York (Queens) and Interboro Institute.
Mr. Meirowitz started his career at Anderson Kill and Olick, representing policyholders against insurance companies that denied coverage. He co-authored an amicus brief to the U.S. Supreme Court advocating for punitive damages against insurers acting in bad faith.
He is admitted to practice law in all New York State Courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. Mr. Meirowitz earned his Juris Doctor from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in 2001 and holds a Bachelor of Arts from the State University of New York at Albany.
