Robert J. Anello has over thirty years of experience litigating in federal and state courts, focusing on white-collar criminal defense, securities and regulatory enforcement, complex civil litigation, and internal investigations. He is known for his skills as a trial and appellate attorney, his negotiation expertise, and his ability to handle investigations discreetly and efficiently.
Bob has served as independent counsel for major institutions, including a Big Four accounting firm and a global financial institution, advising on SEC Look-Back Programs and compliance reviews. He is a past President of the Federal Bar Council and a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the American Bar Foundation, and the New York State Bar Foundation.
Recognized for his achievements, Bob received a Burton Award for Distinguished Legal Writing and has been named a top lawyer by Chambers USA in Litigation: White Collar Crime & Government Investigations. Benchmark Litigation and The Legal 500 have also recognized him for his work in white-collar defense and securities litigation.
His white-collar practice covers a broad range of business crimes, FCPA investigations, sanctions, regulatory and tax violations, and civil frauds. His clients include individuals, financial institutions, Fortune 500 companies, and law firms. Bob also provides pretrial representation and advises professionals before ethics and licensing boards. He recently represented the Supervisory Board of VimpelCom Ltd. in one of the largest FCPA cases in U.S. history.
Bob co-authored the treatise White Collar Crime: Business and Regulatory Offenses and writes a regular White Collar Crime column for the New York Law Journal. He frequently contributes to legal publications and speaks on topics in white-collar law, securities law, and professional ethics. Bob also contributes to Forbes and serves on Bloomberg BNA’s Litigation Advisory Board.
Dedicated to the legal community, Bob was recently reappointed as Chairperson of the Attorney Grievance Committee by the Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Department. He has held leadership roles in the Association of the Bar of the City of New York and is a member of several bar associations. He also serves on the Board of Trustees of The Supreme Court Historical Society and is active in the New York Organ Donor Network.
