Rick Leland specializes in land use, environmental law, and litigation, bringing over 45 years of experience representing real estate developers, universities, non-profit organizations, and industrial firms on environmental issues related to real estate transactions, development, and land use.
His efforts have been instrumental in securing approvals for, and defending against lawsuits related to, several billion-dollar developments. Rick collaborates with clients across the country on various matters, including environmental impact reviews, regulatory and transactional counseling, and litigation support for operators and lenders under the Federal “Superfund” Law on a national level.
Additionally, Rick provides legal counsel to developers, outdoor advertising firms, municipalities, and public authorities regarding zoning issues and litigation stemming from zoning and environmental decisions in New York City and its suburban counties. He frequently serves as amicus curiae for developers and the Real Estate Board of New York, Inc. in important environmental and land use cases in New York’s appellate courts. Recently, he has obtained a license to practice in Florida, where he represents clients in environmental and land use matters, in addition to his work in New York.
