He assists issuers, underwriters, lenders, and both taxable and tax-exempt investors in evaluating, structuring, and executing these transactions from start to finish.
With over 40 years of experience, Peter has served as counsel on some of the largest private and publicly offered real estate securities transactions. He has worked with financial organizations on various non-traded limited partnerships and real estate investment trusts (REITs), both listed and non-listed. His extensive background includes partnership law, tender offers, REIT offerings, joint ventures, and mergers of publicly traded REITs, as well as initial listings of non-traded REITs.
Peter is highly ranked in Capital Markets REITs and Real Estate Finance by Chambers USA, with clients recognizing him as “vastly experienced” and a “legend in real estate tax.” He is also noted as a leading lawyer in the non-traded REIT industry by US Legal 500, where he is regarded as “the godfather of the non-traded REIT industry.”
In addition to his legal practice, Peter has written and lectured extensively on topics such as real estate investment trusts, syndication, partnership structuring, and tax shelters. His publications include several notable handbooks and treatises, such as *The Real Estate Investment Trusts Handbook* and a bi-monthly column for the *New York Law Journal* on real estate securities.
Peter has also served on the NASD Direct Participation Committee and contributed to drafting the NASD’s roll-up rules, which now provide the foundation for the roll-up of limited partnerships under federal and California law.
