Marc Dedman is a Partner at the Nashville office, bringing over 30 years of experience in both civil and common law. His practice is primarily centered on insurance coverage and bad faith claims, commercial litigation, risk management and mitigation, and mediation.
Marc advises clients on the intricacies of purchasing and managing insurance as part of a comprehensive risk and financial management strategy. A substantial portion of his practice is dedicated to first-party and third-party insurance coverage claims, insurance recovery, dispute resolution, risk management, cost containment, and crisis management.
With a deep understanding of insurance companies, policies, and the legal frameworks surrounding loss coverage, Marc simplifies the complexities of insurance language for his clients. This enables them to interpret contracts effectively, helping them avoid claim denials or delays. His clientele primarily includes public and private companies, organizations, boards of directors, individual officers, and various policyholders. He also frequently advises insurance brokers on coverage issues.
Marc collaborates with policyholders to analyze, negotiate, and manage contract terms to minimize risks, expedite payments, and reduce the likelihood of litigation. Should litigation become necessary, his extensive trial experience allows him to advocate effectively in both state and federal courts for the coverage his clients deserve. His cases often involve complex litigation with substantial claimed damages. Additionally, his problem-solving skills help clients prevent issues before they arise, benefiting both domestic and international clients.
In addition to his advocacy skills in the courtroom, Marc is adept at alternative dispute resolution. He is certified as a Rule 31 General Civil Mediator by the Supreme Court of the State of Tennessee, enabling him to serve as a neutral party in facilitating voluntary settlements that are typically less costly and time-consuming than litigation.
Beyond his insurance expertise, Marc utilizes his MBA to collaborate with the firm’s transactional, cybersecurity, tax, and corporate attorneys, providing clients with a comprehensive suite of business services. He is an active leader in the international business community and is frequently consulted by international law firms for his broad-ranging capabilities across multiple practice areas.
Marc is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association International Law and Practice Section Executive Committee. He also serves as Vice Chair of the International Practice Committee of the International Society of Primerus Law Firms, where he chairs the Insurance Practice Group, comprising lawyers from six continents. He has moderated international panels at Belmont University School of Law in Nashville, Tulane University School of Law in New Orleans, and at events in Washington, D.C., and Miami, Florida.
