Larry Gerschwer, a former federal prosecutor, specializes in white-collar criminal and regulatory matters. He frequently represents clients in government investigations related to securities and commodities fraud, as well as domestic and FCPA-related public corruption. Larry defends clients in inquiries conducted by various agencies, including the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, IRS, federal and state banking regulators, antitrust regulators, and local prosecutors.
With extensive experience in managing complex matters involving parallel criminal and civil enforcement investigations and cross-border inquiries, Larry has dealt with cases involving alleged manipulation of major global financial benchmarks like LIBOR, ISDAFIX, and various currency and swap rates.
He has represented numerous traders and supervisors in investigations concerning unauthorized trading and mismarking, and has conducted internal investigations for institutional clients while defending them before federal and state agencies.
As an accomplished trial lawyer, Larry has tried many federal criminal cases, serving both as a prosecutor and defense attorney, and has briefed and argued several appeals. Chambers USA recognizes Larry as “an experienced white-collar practitioner” and “a very effective advocate who is fundamentally thoughtful, careful, creative, and tough.”
For nearly nine years, Larry was an Assistant United States Attorney in the Southern District of New York, where he was part of the Securities and Commodities Fraud Task Force and the Public Corruption Unit. He investigated and prosecuted multiple cases involving violations of federal securities laws, including schemes related to accounting fraud and boiler rooms. Additionally, he played a significant role in prosecuting a substantial bribery scheme involving New York City property tax assessors, which was characterized by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg as “the largest and most financially damaging corruption scheme ever conducted within city government.”
