Kenneth R. Larywon is a Senior Trial Partner at Martin Clearwater & Bell LLP, focusing on defending professional liability cases and healthcare law matters.
With over 40 years of experience, Mr. Larywon has represented physicians and hospitals in claims related to medical care delivery. He also represents healthcare professionals in disciplinary proceedings before the Office of Professional Medical Conduct and the Department of Education.
Mr. Larywon has significant experience advising and defending hospitals, especially in credentialing matters involving physicians and nursing staff. He has helped numerous hospitals successfully remove healthcare professionals from their medical staffs, guiding clients through hearings and defending their decisions before the Public Health Council.
He has delivered more than 150 lectures on risk management to healthcare professionals across many metropolitan area hospitals. His expertise includes lecturing to associations, such as his presentation to the American Association of Health Plans titled “Using Proper Credentialing to Avoid Negligence-Based Lawsuits.”
Mr. Larywon has co-authored a series of articles in the New York Law Journal on managed care issues, analyzing U.S. Supreme Court decisions and discussing managed care organization liability under the Texas Healthcare Liability Act. He has also lectured on these topics to the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.
From 2012-2015, Mr. Larywon chaired and taught courses at the Annual Meetings of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has also led similar programs at international conferences, including the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology and the World Congress of Ophthalmology, delivering lectures on medical malpractice in countries around the world.
Mr. Larywon previously chaired the Health Law Section of the New York State Bar Association and served as its Secretary and Vice-Chair. He also chaired the Professional Discipline Committee for over 10 years and co-chaired statewide programs on professional disciplinary processes for healthcare practitioners.
He has been recognized by his peers on the New York Super Lawyers list since 2006 and included in The Best Lawyers in America® for Health Care Law – Defendants since 2016. He holds the AV Preeminent® rating from Martindale-Hubbell®.
Before joining MCB, Mr. Larywon served as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx County, where he was assigned to the Major Offense Bureau. His criminal law background has been valuable in advising healthcare clients on investigations by Federal and State prosecutors. He has also successfully protected the confidentiality of quality assurance documents in court proceedings.
