About this Lawyer/Firm

Bruce is a former federal and state prosecutor with over 40 years of experience in criminal law. He has handled virtually every type of criminal case, ranging from securities fraud to murder, representing clients from celebrities to those with limited means. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 2009 and served a two-year term as chair of its Downstate New York Committee. Recently, he moderated a week-long conference in Malta on counterterrorism, which was sponsored by the International Institute of Justice and the Rule of Law.

Bruce frequently conducts high-profile internal investigations for labor unions and businesses, addressing issues such as corruption, sexual discrimination, and racial discrimination. His recent work includes investigations involving the executive director of the National Hockey League Players’ Association, renowned opera singer Placido Domingo, and a well-known cancer treatment institute. Additionally, he spent a decade as the Ethical Practices Officer for AFSCME District Council 37, New York City’s largest municipal union, where he investigated allegations of financial corruption and misconduct among its 120,000 members and officials.

Prior to entering private practice, Bruce served as a prosecutor in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Organized Crime Strike Force for the Eastern District of New York, where he led several landmark RICO prosecutions. Notably, he indicted the leadership of a Long Island-based Laborers Union and was involved in the first significant prosecution related to the savings and loan crisis of the 1980s, which significantly broadened the liability of union pension fund advisers. Bruce also testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee regarding the complexities of investigating financial crime cases.

In addition to his fellowship in the American College of Trial Lawyers, Bruce has been consistently recognized as a Super Lawyer and Best Lawyer in his field. He is licensed to practice law in New York and New Hampshire, as well as in the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York, the Districts of Connecticut and New Hampshire, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Criminal Defense

The Criminal Defense practice area focuses on representing individuals accused of committing crimes, ranging from misdemeanors to serious felonies. Attorneys in this field defend clients against charges such as theft, assault, drug offenses, and white-collar crimes, working to protect their rights and ensure a fair trial. Criminal defense lawyers analyze the evidence, negotiate plea deals, and develop strategies to challenge the prosecution’s case. They may also advocate for reduced sentences or alternative sentencing options if a conviction occurs. This practice area requires a deep understanding of criminal law, procedures, and constitutional rights, as well as the ability to navigate complex legal systems. The primary goal is to achieve the best possible outcome for clients, whether through acquittal, dismissal of charges, or minimized penalties.
