He has significant experience representing lenders and borrowers in workouts and restructurings, including high-profile transactions such as assisting the U.S. government and the People’s Republic of China in disposing of billions in real estate assets.
Andrew is a versatile real estate lawyer adept in all business cycles, handling transactions for office buildings, affordable housing, hotels, industrial facilities, and retail centers on both individual and portfolio levels. He represents lenders in various loan transactions, including construction and mezzanine loans, and assists property owners in acquisitions, sales, and developments. He also represents landlords and tenants in ground leases and office/retail leases. His clients range from insurance companies and banks to developers, foreign and U.S. investment funds, family offices, and nonprofit organizations.
Andrew takes a comprehensive approach, helping clients navigate market trends and improve their operational platforms. With over 40 years of experience, he has guided clients through distressed real estate transactions, including workouts, restructurings, foreclosures, and the purchase/sale of impaired loans and properties. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he co-led a team that assisted a major financial institution in modifying over 200 commercial mortgage loans to provide short-term relief.
His career includes public service as counsel at the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC) during the early 1990s real estate crisis, where he advised on the disposition of $4 billion in assets. Andrew also represented China Huarong Asset Management Corporation in bulk sales of over $1 billion of nonperforming loans and foreclosed properties in China, among the first of such transactions in the country. Additionally, he has represented the heirs of Holocaust victims in recovering stolen art.
