Jonathan N. Halpern is a seasoned litigator with vast experience in white collar criminal defense, drawing on his background as a former federal prosecutor in the Southern District of New York (SDNY). He represents corporations and individuals in investigations and prosecutions across various criminal issues, often resolving cases quietly through negotiations with prosecutors and regulators.
Mr. Halpern’s defense practice spans financial services, cybersecurity, FCPA, healthcare, securities, tax, and workplace misconduct, including sexual assault and harassment allegations. He handles cases in federal and state courts and before agencies such as the DOJ, SEC, CFTC, and New York Attorney General’s Office.
He is also active in pro bono work, notably securing asylum for individuals facing persecution. His contributions earned him recognition as a Holland & Knight Public & Charitable Service All Star and Pro Bono All Star.
As a former federal prosecutor and chief of the SDNY Major Crimes Unit, Mr. Halpern supervised complex financial crime investigations, including international bribery, money laundering, and healthcare fraud, and led high-profile cases such as the investigation into the Marc Rich pardon.
