Amy Gladstein is a founding partner at Gladstein, Reif & Meginniss. She has litigated various issues under the National Labor Relations Act, the Labor Management Reporting and Disclosure Act, and other laws affecting workers’ rights to organize and engage in labor organizations. Amy has represented unions in the healthcare and telecommunications sectors, as well as university professors. She achieved a significant milestone by successfully establishing the requirement for employers to provide COBRA coverage to striking employees. Additionally, she served as trial counsel in a landmark case where the New York State Board of Regents removed all but one member of the Board of Trustees at Adelphi University for violating their fiduciary duties.
Since 2002, Amy has led the new organizing program for 1199 SEIU, where she has negotiated and enforced multiple election procedure agreements to ensure that workers can select their representation fairly and freely. She has also developed and directed strategic organizing campaigns.
Amy graduated from Oberlin College in 1971 and earned her law degree cum laude from New York University Law School in 1974, where she was a member of the Order of the Coif. After law school, she worked as a field attorney for Region 2 of the National Labor Relations Board for two years before founding her firm. Amy has been actively involved in the Labor Committees of both the New York State and New York City Bar Associations. She has spoken at numerous labor conferences, including those hosted by the New York State Bar Association, and at Harvard and Yale Law Schools on topics related to representing workers in organizing campaigns. Additionally, she served on the Board of Trustees for the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund.
