Ted A. Berkowitz is a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy and Creditors’ Rights, Litigation, and Dispute Resolution Practice Groups, and also serves as General Counsel to the firm. His practice focuses on complex bankruptcy, restructuring matters, and commercial litigation. He represents corporate debtors, secured and unsecured creditors, official committees, landlords, asset purchasers, and other parties in bankruptcy court proceedings. Ted also defends against preference and fraudulent conveyance actions and claims related to failed business transactions, while advising clients on out-of-court workouts and debt restructurings.
With over 35 years of experience in the bankruptcy field, Ted has represented major institutional lenders, corporate, and individual creditors in high-profile Chapter 11 cases. He has worked with Official Creditors’ Committees in some of the most significant Chapter 11 cases in New York’s Eastern and Southern Districts. Ted has also served as an Examiner and Chapter 11 operating trustee by appointment from the Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of New York, and is a member of the official mediation panel for both the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York. He was part of a subcommittee that helped shape new local bankruptcy rules for the Eastern District of New York.
Since 2002, Ted has cultivated a practice in healthcare restructuring for both debtors and creditors. His extensive involvement in bankruptcy and restructuring also includes providing educational seminars on various topics in the field.
In 2012, Ted was appointed to the Board of Editors of the Journal of Bankruptcy Law. He has frequently published works on bankruptcy and secured lending, served as editor of *The Bankruptcy Strategist* published by the New York Law Journal, and remains an active member of its editorial board, contributing regularly.
