Mitch Korbey is a partner and chairs the firm’s Land Use & Zoning Group. With over 30 years of experience as an urban planner and land use attorney, Mitch has worked in both private practice and government service. He previously served as Commissioner of the Board of Standards and Appeals (BSA), director of the Department of City Planning’s (DCP) Brooklyn office, and deputy director of DCP’s Staten Island office.
Recognized by Chambers USA and Legal 500 as one of New York City’s top zoning lawyers, Mitch advises clients on a wide range of issues including site acquisitions, development options, zoning lot mergers, and the transfer of development rights. He assists with zoning variances, special permits, and other discretionary approvals from agencies like the BSA, DCP, Department of Buildings, and Landmarks Preservation Commission.
Mitch regularly counsels prominent developers, owners, and lenders on managing millions of square feet of New York City real estate. He helps clients navigate the complex zoning regulations, ensuring their business goals align with city rules, while also providing insights into potential political factors that could affect their projects.
In addition to his legal work, Mitch is an adjunct professor of law at Brooklyn Law School and teaches in Hunter College’s graduate program in urban planning.
