David is highly regarded as one of New York’s leading matrimonial attorneys, consistently recognized in peer reviews.
He has been named “Lawyer of the Year” in the New York Metro Area by “Best Lawyers in America” three times (2011, 2018, 2024), making him the only attorney to receive this honor more than twice.
With over thirty years of experience, he has achieved the highest peer rating (‘AV’) for competence and ethics from the esteemed Martindale-Hubbell directory.
David has been recognized by “Super Lawyers” as one of the “Top 100 Lawyers” in New York and has received a “Band 1” rating from Chambers and Partners, a distinction awarded to only three matrimonial lawyers in New York in 2024, including his partner, Pamela Sloan.
Admitted to the bar in 1975, David graduated cum laude from Brooklyn Law School, where he served as an Editor of the Law Review. He then worked as a law clerk for a U.S. District Judge in Manhattan before joining a prestigious New York City law firm, applying his litigation skills to matrimonial law since 1983.
While an accomplished trial lawyer, David is also known for his creative approach to case resolution, often acting as a mediator or arbitrator to help settle disputes outside of court.
David is a member of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, and the American College of Family Trial Lawyers, where he is a diplomate limited to only 100 lawyers in the U.S. He has held various positions within the American Bar Association and has served as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Brooklyn Law School.
Active in legal education, David has lectured at numerous seminars and conferences organized by various legal associations, including the New York State Office of Court Administration and the Practicing Law Institute.
Married since 1978, David and his wife Inette Fox Aronson have a daughter who is a theatrical director and a son who is a partner at Aronson Mayefsky & Sloan, LLP.
